A bottle of Peggy rum in a wooden box

Distilled to perfection.

The Isle of Man is rich in romantic fables, yet none of them captures the imagination quite like The Peggy of Castletown.

An 18th-century schooner boat, her apocryphal ties to rum runs is what prompted us to embark on our own adventure of distilling a libation that captured the vivid legend behind one of the Isle of Man’s most captivating tales.

Dark and rich chocolate, molasses, and coffee infused with oak, caramel, and a hint of liquorice and marzipan on the finish gives Peggy Dark Rum a palate as unique as her story.

Rich in flavour.
Rich in heritage.

Our master distillers have hand-picked the finest ingredients to produce a rum as exceptional in flavour as it is in heritage.

Aromas of dark chocolate and molasses complement a full-bodied palate of oak, caramel, and a hint of liquorice and marzipan for a smooth, rich finish.

A splash of cold brew coffee is then added to give Peggy Dark Rum unparalleled character and distinction.

Peggy Dark Rum Truffles

Our search for craft businesses that produce true artisanal products led us to Davison’s, an award-winning Manx chocolatier and ice creamery.

Since 1988, Davison’s has been dedicated to producing the finest handmade chocolates created by its Master Chocolatier, Ian Davison.

Founded in 1988, Ian Davison has been combining original and exciting flavours in his cutting-edge creations. A protégé of Gulliver’s Chocolate (a London-based chocolatier supplier to Harrods and Fortnum & Mason), Ian uses the finest Callebaut Belgian chocolate in all his creations.

Made using Manx butter, our truffle selections are handmade and finished, and feature smooth, decadent chocolate shells filled with Peggy Rum, a dark rum with aromas of caramel, oak, and marzipan, to give our truffles an unparalleled depth of flavour.

Award-winning distillers.

Each product in our portfolio is the culmination of 10 months’ hard work, refined by our award-winning distiller and produced in small batches exclusively for Far Shore Merchants.

The Cornish Distilling Co. is an award-winning creator of British rum and the pioneer of rum distillation in Cornwall.

Based in Bude, they are one of a handful of UK distillers to create their own rum from scratch, and their head distiller ferments sugarcane-derived molasses on-site.

Having ownership over the fermentation process allows the team full control of the flavour of their product.

From a land of fantastical tales.

Clandestine voyages under the cloak of the moon; covert crossings beneath stricken skies; perilous passages through rolling troughs of black water. The Isle of Man is rich in romantic fables, yet none of them capture the imagination quite like The Peggy of Castletown.

Hidden in a boathouse and protected by many curious features including trap doors and secret panels, it was Peggy’s intriguing duplicity that gave birth to the apocryphal tale of rum smuggling, and which prompted us to embark on our own adventure of distilling a rum that captured the vivid legend behind one of the Isle of Man’s most captivating tales.

In partnership with Manx National Heritage, we intend to prolong the interest in this fascinating boat and its rich place in Manx history.
